Baltimore Performance Kitchen + CONGREGATE present “Closets” September 22

“We are in community each time we find a place where we belong.” –Peter Block

“CONGREGATE art + faith + community” and Baltimore Performance Kitchen are pleased to present “Closets”, a live performance of stories shared by congregation members and interpreted by members of the Single Carrot Theatre. The performance will be held in the Sheila and Richard Riggs gallery on Sunday, September 22 at 5pm.

The Baltimore Performance Kitchen creative team went to various project sites and recorded congregants’ stories of hope, fear, and love—and how they found support from their fellow church members. This resulted in an installation that juxtaposes black and white video portraits of the participants with audio recordings of them recounting their stories. This installation is featured in the gallery space as a back drop for the theatre performance interpreted by Single Carrot Theatre.

CONGREGATE Kickstarter has been funded!

Dear supporters,

Thanks to you, we have raised $5,050 to support the “CONGREGATE art + faith + community” exhibition at the Maryland Institute College of Art. With these funds, we will print catalogs and other publications, create an amazing gallery installation, order food, and support our programs!

Thank you from the participating congregations, “CONGREGATE” artists in residence, MICA Curatorial Practice professors and the M.F.A in Curatorial Practice class of 2014. All of this hard work for the past year has been worth it. We are so grateful and we have learned to have faith in art and our Baltimore community in order to create a more inclusive arts district in Station North. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Your goodies and rewards will be delivered at the end of September or early October. We will continue to post updates on our Kickstarter, so stay tuned!

Mark your calendars!

Open Studio Tour and Ice Cream was a success!

Each participating artist in residence presented their work in progress to the congregations and public in their assigned place of worship on August 11, 2013. This was an opportunity for the community to get an inside look at the work and get a better understanding of the project “CONGREGATE art + faith + community”. After the open studios, everyone met at St. Michaels & All Angels for some ice cream and to get to meet the CONGREGATE team! Yay for ice cream!

This program was proudly sponsored by the MICA Office of Community Engagement.
