AKIMBO Dance Festival is a day of site-specific dance and movement art in Baltimore’s Station North Arts and Entertainment District. This summer, AKIMBO partnered with CONGREGATE to host a “CONGREGATE Community Artwalk” in Station North in cooperation with the five places of worship on August 30, 2013. They paraded around Station North with chairs painted by artist in residence Katherine Kavanaugh and members of St. Marks Lutheran Church and The Church of St. Michael & All Angels. The program ended with an awesome African dance class!
On September 15, the second annual AKIMBO Dance Festival activated the Station North Arts and Entertainment District with site-specific dance and movement art. As part of this festival, Deep Vision Dance Company performed at MICA’s Studio Center Sheila & Richard Riggs and Leidy galleries, with movements responding to and incorporating the artworks created by the artists-in-residence from each congregation.
